You are enough

Sometimes when I look at pictures of me as a little girl I want to scream to her through the image “Watch out! It’s about to get rough. Hold on. You will be ok. You are amazing.”

I suffered silently for so long and learned to triumph over trauma, loss and hurt on my own. Ultimately, I became an advocate and a coach to help women who are in a place of uncertainty. Who know they have what it takes to get out of the muck but need accountability and support to get there. There is no glory or need to struggle alone. Resources are everywhere and readily available. There is no shame in using them and no one should have to feel alone — in anything.

I often think about myself at age six, my favorite age. She was so true and real in her handmade chunky beaded necklaces and corduroy skirts. Hair slightly messy from a busy day of discovering, exploring and laughing. Clogs on her feet that assured her with every clunk clunk clunk that she was here. The changes from that little girl to the young girl in this photo were profound.

This time of year can be a reflective one. It’s easy to fall into a trap of judging and comparing ourselves and others. It’s so important to find our footing at times like this. To remember who we are, to celebrate our strengths and talents, and to know that we are enough just as we are.

In a world that spins and swirls at relentless speeds, may we all reconnect with our grounding inner magic and stand tall in our triumph, no matter our age. (And sometimes handmade chunky beaded necklaces, carefree corduroy skirts and clunky clogs help too!)
